Day 30: Nova Scotia Contingent

I was a member of the Nova Scotia contingent at CJ'81 .

I was a scout in 1981 and got to go with my troop to Kananaskis Alberta. We flew out of Halifax on on a chartered jet filled with Scouts and I was reminded this past weekend of the special pack covers we had to prepare. The airline required all packs to have no loose straps or gear on the outside. We were given these giant bags made of white plastic tarpaulin material onto which we had to write our names, home group (2nd Cole Harbour) and unit numbers.

I think I used that cover for several years as it was very tough. It was however very ugly and quickly became inaccurate as I lived for a year in Toronto then moved to BC within juts a couple of years.

I believe the jet landed a couple of times to pick up more scouts as it crossed the country and that had to be the noisiest flight the crew had ever heard. Picture a flying school bus with a group of kids trained to sing and cheer.  I bet they were glad we were all under age and Scouting has a no-alcohol policy even if you are of age.
