Day 109: Rothenburg

The full name of this delightful German town is Rothenberg ob der Tauber

My wife and I along with two friends traveled together to Europe and spent some time touring Belgium, Amsterdam and Germany before we left them in France to head off on thier own.

We all loved Rothenberg, a walled town with charm coming out the ying yang. I first heard about it from my Aunt Evelyn who had discovered it's delightful year-round Christmas decoration stores years before and inspired her to open the first Christmas store in Victoria. The historical side of the town I read about in Rick Steves' book was what made this a must-see for us however.

We especially enjoyed camping in my parents camper van on the Tauber river below the town. Given that we were in one of the worst heat waves Europe had seen that July swimming in the river with the German kids was a huge treat.
