Day 97: Musician's Badge

I played trumpet, well actually cornet, in grade six and earned the Musician's Badge.
I think it was the "Musician" badge but the current version is identified as the "Music" badge. I suppose I could borrow my son's Scout Book (if he can find it) and look up the requirements but I have to wonder why the change? I fear I will find some namby-pamby "music appreciation" BS.

Sometimes in our society in general I wonder why we feel the need to lower requirements. Why do we allow the attitude that trying is the same as doing. Everyone my age knows "Do, or do not. There is no try." That is what the Own the Podium program was at the last Olympics and it resulted in a record number of medals for Canada. For Cubs I really support the motto "Do Your Best" but sometimes it seems like any effort at all is treated as the best someone can do.

Not sure where I'm going with this rant - or even if it is appropriate in this case - so I'll just stop there.

For now.
