I remember doing apple day as a cub in Ottawa.
We would carry small baskets of apples and visit door to door asking for donations and giving apples. Those days and the few times my family actually went to an apple orchard to pick our own were the only times I remember eating large quantities of apples. I don't remember ever getting a badge for doing it.
Today we set up outside the local grocery store and offer apples "by donation" which means we actually give away very few. I guess it is more healthy than the chocolate bars the sports teams sell at the same locations.
