Today's badge is the shoulder flash of Princess Patricia's Light Infantry.
The 3rd Battalion of this highly decorated unit used to be based at Work Point Barracks in Victoria, BC. As a Venturer I was a part of the 5th Arbutus Group sponsored by the battalion. I also actually lived at Work Point in the PMQ's (Permanent Married Quarters) practically across from the gym the PPCLI provided for our meetings.
Given the heroic deeds this regiment has accomplished I was very proud to wear the shoulder flash (on one shoulder only) of my Venturer uniform. It was a great disappointment a few years later when they were transferred out of Work Point and eventually, having lost their sponsor and with a declining enrollment 5th Arbutus ceased to exist.
The Pats were the last regular Army unit based in British Columbia and intending no slight to our dedicated Militia units, they are missed by many.
